We can't stop here, this is bat country!
Caught up with Hunter S. Thompson this last Halloween. Took a couple snapshots and chilled for a bit downtown. Fun times.

Overabundance of Inspiration > Time = Damn!
Eight months ago I had a rad idea for a new series involving collage and painting with things I love (geometric shapes and designs, skateboarding, kittehs, rhymes, street art, flowers, VOUGE fashion, antique frames). I had to put it on hold, only to be motivated again to do another series after that!
So many inspirations in the sketchbook, so little time. I really hope to get busy this winter so I can have something fresh for Springtime. My art series always seem to overlap one another and my tastes so eclectic. Who knows what the end result will be. We shall see.

VERTIGO (Continuous Looped Video)
Words cannot describe how incredible Terrain 5
was this year. A lot of amazing art and music. It was really nice to see all your lovely faces. We're making history in our city and this year's theme is so true.... We ALL Build this together! For those who couldn't make it, here's a video of Vertigo that I'd promised to share after the event. Photos of the event to come shortly.

Boards With History
July, 2013
PART II
I get my skate decks used from a local pop skate shop, sand them down, but still leaving a few grooves from tricks the skater did on the board. I love the fact that these boards have visited a lot places, rad spots, have performed some amazing tricks, and some amazing falls too. This is the reason I call these "Boards With History". A very nostalgic thought and connection for me in particular. Plus the boards get a second chance at being reincarnated as art pieces.
When someone purchases one of my skateboards, they also get a little history underneath the artwork.

A couple of years ago a friend gave me this little refrigerator magnet. It says, over the background of one of Jackson Pollock's drip paintings, "Never Apologize For Your Art." I love this quote and I look at it every time I open my refrigerator door. Very encouraging. Now all that to say this. I will never apologize for my art. BUT. I will let someone know when I think it sucks or I executed it poorly from my mind to the canvas as I felt I did on this piece, Fryerstarter. I wasn't happy with it from the finish and after finally getting some time to sand down the red sphere and redo Bob's Donuts in a simple fresh font... I am happy. And as my hero Jackson Pollock once said, "Sometimes I lose a painting. But I have no fear of changes, of destroying the image, because a painting has a life of its own. I kind of let it live."

FRYERSTARTER
Acrylic on Skateboard
2012
So I've been back in the 'studio' which consists of
where ever I can lay my artwork. I've been
working on a new board design that I thought
you might like to see as it progressed in
increments of time during these past couple
of weeks.
The basic reference to this board is based on
one of Aesop Rock's songs, Fryerstarter, from
his new album Skelethon which is so good by
the way.

The Planets And The Soundwaves

"The Planets And The Soundwaves"
Featuring new works by Amia
3/2/12 @The Baby Bar
827 W. 1st Avenue
Directly behind Neato Burrito and across from
The Davenport Hotel
5-8pm
21+only please
Hi Everyone,
I'll be the featured artist at The Baby Bar
for the month of March, which included
painting a one time mural on the infamous
8ft board that will hang in the bar before
being painted over by the next upcoming
artist. What most don't know yet, is that the
title of the show, "The Planets And The
Soundwaves", are lyrics from one of my
favorite local bands (Dead Serious Lovers).
I've also subtitled the other new pieces with their
lyrics as well.
I hope you can stop by on this First Friday and
experience a convergence of... Alfred Hitchcock
meets Twilight Zone meets Vogue meets
Outerspace!
Amia
