Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton/ Stones Throw Records

So I entered a design for Stones Throw Records poster contest, "Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton" which will be a feature-length documentary about avant-garde Los Angeles-based Stones Throw Records, its culture, and its enigmatic artists. You can check it out on the link below. If you're a Spokane native you'll also know that our very own beloved James Pants is with the label as well as a lot of other great artists. The winner chosen will have their design used for the film's posters and possibly the new DVD cover.

One of my dear friends and art collector Christi (L) who owns some of my artwork. I call her and her husband our local "Herb and Dorthy". Seriously. They are a tremendous pair who have supported Spokane's music, skate and art scene for many many years. We love you Christi and Mike! (Christi actually won the raffle for Kirsten's painting in the background!).

Me and good friend Patrick Kendrick. Pk is founder of Platform Booking and books many music and art shows in town. He's also one of the founders of Terrain, Spokane's huge and ever growing annual juried art event. Pk booked my first art showing in '05! He has a great passion for bringing the community together through music and art. Cool dude!

Fact
share them like tracts
Leaving on backs
of cracked pavement
Walls and fists
indoctrinated

WHY? did I not know
you needed saving
The earbuds you wore
were worn
Bad beats dripped down
your shaven

Leaked on the floor

Left wanting more
than mundane wavelengths

Laszlo Moholy-Nagy

You know, there are a lot of artists whom I totally respect and admire both locally and in the bigger scheme of things in the art world, but few and far between are there artists (both visually and musically... that's another future blog) that literally grab me and turn my insides out. Something happens on a level that I completely connect with visually, emotionally...even spiritually, and I find it very intriguing I've discovered some of these artists years after their death. Laszlo Moholy-Nagy being 66 years after his death. It amazes me how our lives have an affect on others and ripples throughout  history like a rock thrown into a pond, rippling out, touching the lives of others in a new generation. A distant future. There is no other way I can explain it, yet I am eternally grateful how I've been influenced by others. That being said, I introduce to you Mr. Laszlo Mohloy-Nagy, Hungarian/American (1895-1946). Artist proficient and innovative in Photography, Painting, typography, sculpture, printmaking, industrial design and film.

Happy Halloween From Luke Steele!

Hey Everyone!
If you've followed my blog for a while, you'll already know that Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and that I put a lot of time into creating mine and my family's costumes (even my pets!). The headliner each year though is transforming my daughter into her favorite icons and characters. This year she had to explain to a lot of people who she was. If you know the Australian band Empire of The Sun, you'll recognize that she is the amazing Luke Steele! I had so much fun with it. If you've never heard of this band, check em out… and the video below is a must see!
