VIVIAN MAIER... A STREET PHOTOGRAPHER'S DISCOVERED WORK

Vivian Maier 1926-2009

The late French born Vivian Maier, a nanny and unknown
street photographer mainly from the 1950's-1970's, discreetly
chronicled life in Chicago's loop and surrounding districts for
decades. Her work was discovered at an estate auction in
Chicago where John Maloof purchased her boxed negatives.
Vivian's discovered work includes more than 100,000 negatives,
with about 20-30,000 still in rolls, and 3,000 prints. They are
mostly medium format.

My life is forever changed as an artist. It would be most im-
possible that her work did not touch one's very soul! Her
passion for photography, others and the world around her is
very evident. Thank you Vivian Maier. I wish you were here
to see what an impact you've made on the world thus far...
(and a bigger thanks to John Maloof for letting this new
legacy live).

You can view more photos, see the video, and read the story
in its entirety here:

Also, her new website is up now as of April, 2011!
