VERTIGO MEETS GEOMETRY

VERTIGO #4
16x40
Acrylic on Gallery styled canvas
2011

So I'm having some fun with my Vertigo series.
I'm very much fascinated with geometrical shapes...
triangles in particular. I'm in no way a math whiz,
but thought I'd add a few geometric formulas too.
If you're wondering why you cannot see the entire
vertigo sphere and large red triangle, it's because
they have been painted onto the edges of the canvas.
I've also incorporated bits of red into the contrast series on some pieces lately.

Response to Japan Earthquake

A lot of us may not be able to give much, but with all of our 'not muches' we can make a much needed difference.

Those who want to help can go to Redcross.org and donate to Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami. People can make a $10 donation by texting REDCROSS to 90999. Gifts to the American Red Cross will support disaster relief efforts to help those affected by the earthquake and tsunami throughout the Pacific.

About the American Red Cross:
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.

EXPERIMENTING

Photobucket

So my stenciling ability sucks right
now. But. I've been playing around with
this idea in my head for a while.
(...and for the record, it's not Joaquin
Phoenix although I can see the resemblance)

I'm a big fan of Ben Bridwell with Band
of Horses, so I made a stencil of him with
one of his rad beards. I wanted a pair of
80's styled shades on him with my
signature design, Retro Mosaic, on the
shade.

The 'I Brake For Beards' quote was the
the first thing that came to mind when
the idea initially sparked.

I hope to have t-shirts available
sometime @ future shows.

Jason deCaires Taylor's underwater sculpture installations
are also coral reef... fascinating!

His installations can be found in places around the Globe.

"...Highlighting natural ecological processes, Taylor's
interventions explore the intricate relationships that exist
between art and environment. His works become artificial
reefs, attracting marine life, while offering the viewer
privileged temporal encounters, as the shifting sand of the
ocean floor, and the works change from moment to moment."

His website is a must see!
